In 1900 John Harwood started a watch repair shop on the Isle of Man in England. As a master watchmaker, he was aware of all the problems of moisture and dust which resulted in movement defects. John Harwood had a vision of a new type reliable watch without opening the case for the winding, which John saw as a vulnerability related moisture and dust. John Harwood did the invention to provide a similar watch to put on a watch and clock edge to wind through the movement of the wrist and so is the automatic movement was born.

Many renowned Swiss watch manufacturers were eager to produce these watches Harwood, J. Harwood let his choice fall on the Fortis watch factory. The Harwood watches are avant-garde gestijleerd with high quality and highly advanced technology world where many patents were granted. The first generation Harwood watches harvested worldwide success, and some updated versions in the market were good again. The daily winding of a watch did not much convenience and better precision.
