Quartz movement

The American Warren Marrison from Bell Laboratories was the first to present the po to measure time with piëzo-electric effect. In 1959 Seiko S to develop a quartz clock that was 210 cm high and 130 cm wide.

In 1962 Seiko built a portable quartz clock that weight 30 kilo. The marine chronometer was in use with TV and radio stations and the Japanese shipbuilding industry. Two years later during the Olympic Games the Seiko quartz clock weight only 3 kilo.

On the 25th of December 1969 in Tokyo the world’s first quartz wrist watch was presented, with a 18 krt gold case ad leather strap, a limited edition of 100 watches for the price of a reasonable Japanese family car. All watches where sold out in no time. The world of watches shall never be the same.

Quartz technology is constantly crossing boundaries offering more functions and advanced variations.

Since 1988 Seiko kinetic has upgraded their collection and since 1976 Citizen has developed Eco-Drive into a superior technique that is available in all Citizen watches.
